ABOUT ASHLEY BONGO DESIGN

Ashley Bongo Design is a Newburyport-based boutique interior design studio focused on thoughtful, detail-driven residential and select commercial projects throughout the North Shore and coastal New England. We are growing and looking for a Designer who is creative, organized, and ready to support a fast-paced, detail-oriented, collaborative studio environment.

We are a small, collaborative team that takes tremendous pride in our craft, as well as our client and professional relationships. We move quickly, sweat the details, and show up for one another. We're looking for a talented designer who is eager to grow alongside us.

THE ROLE

As a Designer at ABD, you will  work closely with our creative director and lead designers across multiple active residential and commercial projects simultaneously. This is a entry-level, hands-on role with real responsibility from day one — you'll be involved in everything from design development, sourcing, documentation, and project execution while also supporting studio logistics, product management, and install preparation. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and comfortable shifting between design tasks and hands-on studio responsibilities.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Support the design team by preparing and maintaining client-facing presentations, mood boards, finish boards and comprehensive design drawings using SketchUp, Layout, Canva, Revit, Google Docs, Sheets alongside other design software, and sourcing tools

  • Source furnishings, lighting, finishes, and accessories from our comprehensive list of trade vendors

  • Manage and track material samples, purchase orders, and project timelines in our project management systems (Design Files, Google Workspace)

  • Join site visits to active construction sites as required, verify installations, and document existing field conditions

  • Research products and pricing to support budget development and client allowance-setting

  • Assist with content creation, portfolio updates, studio operations and organization as needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture

  • 1-3 years of experience in a design studio or similar environment

  • Strong working knowledge of design principles, space planning, and material selection

  • Ability and experience in independently creating comprehensive detailed interior design drawings for clear communication of design intent as well as for precise implementation during construction. All eligible applicants MUST have experience with creating detailed construction drawings and knowledge of the software programs used to do so (Sketchup, Layout & Revit). Any submissions not clearly demonstrating this skill set will not be considered for this position.

  • Proficiency in SketchUp, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite Canva and Google Workspace

  • Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and visual with strong problem-solving skills

  • Highly organized with extreme attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently

  • A collaborative, low-ego attitude and genuine enthusiasm for design , clear documentation and client satisfaction. An overall willingness and enthusiasm to learn and ability to accept constructive feedback.

  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs

  • Comfortable standing, moving, and assisting with installations and deliveries

  • A reliable means of personal transportation to job sites, vendors and other partners as required
